bat curry...

it has been monsoon raining, thundering and lightning for the past couple days and nights but it cleared up for this afternoon. the humidity died down and things started to dry- its so humid here that everything has to be hung up in front of fans because we don't have a dryer, only a washing machine. and especially after it rains... shit getsssss MOIST.  i took the bike into "town"... it's not really a town it's just where there are a few stores and places to eat scattered around and picked up a ton of goodness like pineapples, incense, watermelon popsicles, snickers bars... i saw two wild boars with a baby and i saw a huge duck with a yellow fuzzy duckling playing in the mud- not together, separate places. i also saw the puppies where we usually had lunch when greg was here (PAEWS-1$ for an entree... UNREAL and super tasty dishes) and the chickens with their chicks. lotsa babes out!

seriously talked over the options with my muther this morning as she loathes it here (i've been telling her since we got here that i would figure it out if she wanted to leave)- i said that i think it would be good for me to take it on alone as her constant "this is hell" comments aren't really working for me anymore.  needless to say she's started pricing out tickets...

the air feels like it has cleared. HOORAY!

we had dinner tonight with a couple from Georgia that are staying across the street. they wiped out on their scooter today (they are ok, just muddy) and also had a story about the bats here. i love bats- like love love love them. i think they are one of the coolest things ever and there are TONS here. upon arriving at this restaurant on the beach they were going to have lunch at one of them noticed that the chef had a stack of bats, like 15-20 they said and he was cutting their heads off and throwing the bodies in a bowl. they were too freaked out so couldn't eat there and later we found out from our chef tonight that the locals make bat curry... it's not sold in restaurants here because they are hard to catch (and probably that whole rabies thing) but i wish it was because i really want to try it now.

it is never a dull moment here with the animals and insects- never. frogs, snakes, bats, scorpions, rats, lizards, kimono dragons, chickens, ducks, dogs, pigs, boars, butterflies- gorgeous. they are one of the best parts for me here, for sure. oh! and the geckos!!!- they are everywhere :)
