i just finished reading "damned nations"
i knew there was a reason why i needed to wait until now.
just a few days after i read this book i spoke with a friend of mine who had just got back from south africa. she was working with a school out there doing a summer science program. she explained to me that the government had spent money on putting up hostel type places all along the coast of that area in order to generate money into that community. they were meant to be places for people doing bike tours but they never brought in anyone to train the staff properly and the hostels just fell apart. She then explained that her accommodation was set in one of them because a group of guys had been able to come into the area and buy one. they are fixing up the hostel and training staff to run it. they are going to hand it over to the community when everything is ready.... they have no intention on profiting from it. they just have the means to be able to help that community out and want to. so good.
